It’s time to quit smoking. It’s estimated that about 20% of the workforce still smokes, and of course that doesn’t include those not working.
What’s in a cigarette? Did you know that there are over 4500 other chemicals produced when the tobacco burns and some of these are actually in your cigarette?
We all know about nicotine and notching is a toxic nerve poison. A thimble full would kill a horse. Hydrogen sulfide, methanol – another fatal poison. Acetone – yes, that’s what’s in fingernail polish remover. Ammonia, the stuff we use to keen window. It’s in Windex and bleach and deoderizors. DDT – we stopped using that to spray our plants because we know it’s lethal. Benzine, a major carcinogen. Hydrogen Cyanide, what they use in gas chambers. Carbon monoxide, pyridine, a solvent and cleaning agent and formaldehyde, an embalming fluid. Smoking is a serious risk to our health.
It’s also important to mention the early benefits you get as soon as you stop. Within 20 minutes your blood pressure goes back to normal. In 8 hours the carbon monoxide level goes back to normal and your oxygen levels increase. In 24 hours there is a measurable decrease for your risk of a heart attack. In 48 hours your nerve endings start to grow. Did you know that smoking damages your nerves? This improves your senses of smell and taste. These are just a few things. I have a whole list of benefits that happening a relatively short period of time when you stop smoking.
