Headline Stress

Therapist Dr. Steven Stosny, coined the term “headline stress disorder”. He estimates two-thirds of Americans are stressed out over the future of the country, and the constant consumption of news cycle was pinned as a major contributor. It makes us feel out of control.
We see a lot of people who are being affected by headline stress. Here are some tips to help alleviate this problem:
 – Set a brief time limit for news – and never before bed time
– If there is really bad news, take a break and tune out for a while, or cut off completely if you have to
– Look for good news!
– Get news from a variety of sites with varying opinions for better balance
– You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, and most importantly, don’t keep talking about it because it reinforces it in your subconscious mind
– Start your day with something uplifting

  • Keep things in perspective and don’t catastrophize – deal with what you have control over and leave the rest
