Covid-19 has provided challenges for maintaining positive mental health. For those who are having more than their fair share of togetherness, stress manifests from different places than those who are alone. But it is all stress nonetheless.
Though you can’t socialize in the same ways, you can still be creative using technology. Carve out some alone time to talk, enjoying your favorite beverage with a close friend. Have online dinners with a group of friends. Gather a few people online and play Yahtzee or Pictionary for a fun social night. Be creative.
I remember 20 years ago when my young daughter’s best friend moved away. Apple had just come out with camera technology so we bought the girls cameras for their computers. They’d sit in their rooms, 1000 miles apart, quietly doing their homework, sometimes not even talking, just being with each other. It wasn’t quite the same, but it eased their loneliness. I highly recommend visual communication whenever possible, so Zoom, FaceTime or Skype instead of a phone call if you can. It really does feel better!
