  Stress gets a bad rap - and for the most part, rightfully so. But there is a good kind of stress and it’s called Eustress.  We experience eustress at various times. Like riding a roller coaster, or giving that presentation of a lifetime. Oh, that adrenaline is pumping! When the event is over, your hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol goes back to normal. Unfortunately the stress we experience in our day to day tends to stay with us and those hormone levels stay high. And this can cause a multitude of physical and mental issues. The answer - Take a break from work to decompress and do something enjoyable every day. Practice gratitude to remind yourself of all the good things in life. Probably the most important conversations you have are the ones you have with yourself. They can be the most productive or the most damaging. We create what’s called arbitrary relational frames in our mind. Let me give you an example: Look around you and pick an object near you. Now choose one more thing in your space. Got them? Now, of the two objects, which is better? Go ahead - make a case for why one is better than the other. Of the the two objects, which is the parent and why? (Which came first?) I chose a shoe and a laser printer. And I’m sure, like me, you were able to completely logic the answers to each of those questions. I know I was quite satisfied with my answers. Here’s the point - You create everything from your perception and then make judgments about them -even if it doesn’t make sense or isn’t important.  What thoughts, beliefs and ideas do you hold that have been created arbitrarily, and though you’ve forced them to make sense in some way, no longer serve you? Sometimes it’s hard to let go of these things - and that’s where we can help. It’s more than likely that everyone of you watching has exchanged something at one time. You’ve easily exchanged a dress that didn’t fit for the right size, an awful tie you got for your birthday, or the baking soda you bought instead of the baking powder. It was really easy wasn’t it because you made a mistake or just wanted that item to satisfy you. So perhaps it would be just as easy to think of exchanging an old worn out habit of thought or action that doesn’t serve you, for a fresh one that reflects who you want to be or that would satisfy you more. Exchange something that restricts your health or relationships for something open and able to create abundance, growth and joy. And all of these exchanges add up, and they become expectations. And then they become habits or beliefs. Remember, a belief is just something you keep thinking over and over again. And you know you can change exchange your thoughts any time. From time to time we’ll have clients who say they inherited their mother’s fear of driving, or they - the client, mom and  sister - all get motion sickness in the car, or perhaps they  they inherited same fear of spiders that their dad and brother have. Sometime emotions like fear, and certain physical behaviors are mistaken for learned behaviors. When you are young you may form a certain belief, like every time you ride in a car you get motion sickness. You see that it happens to Mom, so it must be true for you, too. You see mom get sick, so now it is really true. Then you observe how mom copes - she has to have a window open, or she has to be sure she doesn’t eat an hour before the car ride, or smell anything bad during the ride. And wow, it’s true for you, too. And you know it because you didn’t open the window one time and you got sick. And all of these ideas build. Then they become expectations. And then they become habits. A belief is then confirmed because it happens again and again.  Here’s the rub - a belief is just something you keep thinking over and over again. And you know you can change your thoughts any time. I laid the green sweater out last night, and look what I put on this morning. Change your thoughts, change your mind, change your life. We can help with that! In this last week of exploring your inner self, I’d like you to realize how many times you’ve created something out of nothing. It could’ve been a business, a friendship, a perspective, a pieces of art or music.

Choose something and write about it. What you created, how you did it, how it felt to do it. Close your eyes and re-imagine that experience in detail.

Now think of something you want to create in your life. Every day for the entire week, focus on what that feels like, what it looks like. See it done. Then think about it some more.

We are in week 4 of exploring your inner self. This week I want you to remember yourself as a child. 

Go as far back into your memory as you can. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give that younger you about your future?

Now put that advice into action. You may want to do this everyday for the week, focusing on a different aspect of your life.

I often talk about how your thoughts become things. Repeating the same thought over and over provides the brain the opportunity to make it a habit. This is great if your thoughts are in alignment with what you want. If not, well, you are creating ways of thinking that keep you stuck.

This week I’d like you to think of three frequent thoughts that you have. Because we are working on areas of improvement, focus on things that you say to yourself that are not in alignment with what you want. 

What do you wish they would be? Reframe them and make a conscious effort to repeat them and let yourself imagine them in as great detail as possible. Really feel these positive thoughts that you desire!
