Pain -Wires Crossed

We continue our wires-crossed series with pain.
Pain is your body’s way of giving you important information that there is something wrong that needs attention. When everything has been done that can be done and your body has healed, there is no reason for pain to exist.
Sometimes however, the ‘pain gate’ remains open and nerves stay sensitized. In the case of missing limbs, the brain can get messages that there is still a problem and pain can be felt where there is no longer a body part.
We can also ‘take on’ the pain of someone else’s experience and make it our own. Because there is no pain center in the brain, pain is based on what we’ve experienced or on what others tell us it should feel like.
Pain also comes from our unexpressed and misunderstood emotions. 25% of people who suffer from chronic pain have never had an injury or surgery. (Listen to our blog from last week.)
If you’ve had pain for a long time, it can also become a habit. Because habits are just automated thoughts or behaviors, and we can change our thoughts at will, we can change the habit of pain.
Want solutions? Learn how to breathe. Learn self-hypnosis. Go to the blog section of the The FARE Hypnosis website and search the archives with the words ‘pain’, ‘breath’ and self- hypnosis. Lots of ideas will appear!
