Body, Brain and Mind Connections

Over the years there have been many studies of people with multiple personality disorder, today is known as “dissociative identity disorder” (DID). The studies have shown that depending on the personality or “alter” that is expressing itself, the physiology of the body is affected.
With EEGs, doctors were able to ascertain that the brain activity normally associated with sight wasn’t present while a blind alter was in control of the woman’s body, even though her eyes were open. Remarkably, when a sighted alter assumed control, the usual brain activity returned. The prescription of eye glasses may change. Hearing may be impaired in one alter and fine in others. Blood work composition may be different within minutes of an alter change.
All of this leads to interesting discussions of the relationships between the body, brain and the “mind” (meaning consciousness as it relates to spirit or free will) and which influence takes precedence in various scenarios.
While the scientific and philosophical discussions are interesting and important, my general takeaway from these studies is that our ability to heal and change our bodies, thoughts and habits is greatly underestimated and undervalued. Our ability to create and shape our reality is most certainly within our power – learning to take control of it is the key!
