The Secret Sauce for Hypnosis

What is the secret sauce that makes hypnosis successful? First, it’s not all about the hypnotist. Of course you want your hypnotist to have quality and extensive training and experience so they know the best tools to employ during your sessions. But a hypnotist cannot control the outcome you receive. You must be a willing participant in the process.
There are 4 criteria I look for in determining if a client is really ready to accomplish their goals and if hypnosis is the right modality for them:
The first is their Desire for the change. They don’t have to believe hypnosis will work, but they have to want the change – for themselves, not because of anyone else.
The second is Effort. The client has to be willing to do the work: to be honest with themselves, to let emotions arise, to journal or do homework, to practice techniques we teach. A hypnotist cannot do the work for the client – they cannot take a magic wand and hypo it out of you! Yes, their experience and flexibility is important, as hypnosis is a combination of science and art, but the client has to do their part.
The 3rd criteria is Introspection. Insights are always a part of a hypnosis session and it’s important to continue to connect the dots after the session is over. A client should examine what was learned and look how those insights have played out during their life.
And finally, Conscious Action is necessary. While the session is spent working in the subconscious mind, the conscious mind is essential in the follow up. Insights are important for shifting beliefs and gaining understanding and awareness, but then the conscious mind must make different choices. The client has to implement the new choices they’ve discovered – the hypnotist can’t do that for them!
Hypnotists WISH they could wave the hypo-wand and everything would be done. But that just isn’t how it works. But here’s the good part – because hypnosis  happens in the subconscious mind – the part where all the old worn-out beliefs and rules are that are keeping you stuck – it’s so much more efficient than working on it in the conscious mind.
Bottom line – want it, take inspired action, and watch it happen!
