Be Selfish!

I want you to be selfish. That’s right. And I don’t mean just a little “ish”. I mean full out selfish!

Let’s break this word down. Self means “a person’s particular nature or personality; the qualities that make a person individual or unique”.

Ish – means “to some extent”.

Put the two definitions together and it means you are only who you are to some extent.

By contrast, the word “selfish” is defined as “concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure”.

Where did that take a wrong turn? I imagine that the dictionary definition of “selfish” was created by someone who didn’t get what they needed from others and didn’t understand that they had to first find themselves before they could be of benefit to others.

You cannot lead from behind. If you don’t know who you really are, most likely aren’t taking care of yourself, and subsequently have nothing to give.

When you are selfish enough to care how you feel, to understand who you are, you are aligned, you feel worthy, and are clear-minded. You are full of vitality and eager about life.

So when someone calls you selfish, what do they really mean? That you should only be pleasing them?

If it’s important to explore what your “self” feels and needs, give me a call.
