A few years ago I did a blog on change. In today’s environment when people seem resistant to change in many areas, I thought I’d revisit the topic.

One of the popular topics I trained on in the corporate arena was organizational change. It has to start with personal change, which really means looking at why you are uncomfortable with it.

It starts with serious reflection about your belief system. Do your beliefs need some tweaking or are they completely out of date, not serving you anymore? Then I’d suggest the 3 circle tool from Stephen Covey. When you reflect on things that are changing in your life, consider which circle they fall into:

1) Circle of concern – Areas which are out of your control

        What can you let go of?

2) Circle of influence – Areas which you can only indirectly control

         What can you influence?

3) Circle of autonomy – Areas which you can control

          What can you do & what do you feel about it?

Putting things in the proper circle empowers you by knowing if you should act or let go. It helps you keep a proper perspective about change, and therefore, lessen your stress level around it.
