Hypnosis for Surgical Pain

Research has show that hypnosis for surgical pain is very effective. Pain, or as I prefer to refer to it, discomfort associated with surgery, is a topic I can speak to directly. 10 years ago I had a bilateral knee replacement – both knees at the same time. I used hypnosis instead of pain meds to very successfully manage my comfort throughout my recovery and rehab.

You have language centers, auditory and visual centers in your brain, but there are no pain centers there. We ‘feel’ pain based on what our brain thinks it should feel like – from our experiences and what we’ve been told. You can reduce, eliminate, or change how you feel ‘pain’ before the nerve impulse reaches your brain. If you want to feel it like a tickle, or react to it through laughter, or as a warm wave, it’s up to you. With good instruction, hypnosis, and practice you CAN manage pain by turning down the volume or changing the perception of it.

Surgical procedures are designed to improve your physical situation. Having the right frame of mind, and confidence in your ability to manage your thoughts and level of comfort, can improve your surgical experience – helping you stay calm and relaxed, take less medication, and allow for a speedier recovery.
