Your GPS

I often talk about emotions being like your internal GPS, and what I mean by that is that it’s your internal sign that you’re not getting what you need or you want.

Today I’d like to do that and explain that in the way of a metaphor. So you know how you get in your car and you’re using Siri or Waze or the Garmin, whatever you’re using, and you’re going to plug in some directions.

It doesn’t say to you, oh listen, you’re on your own because yesterday you missed that stop and didn’t make the turn I told you, so forget it.  It doesn’t ask you why you didn’t get there sooner. It doesn’t ask you where you were yesterday.

No, you just plug in where you want to go and let it know where you are because that’s really what this is all about. That’s what emotions are about.

It’s about the fact that there’s something that you consciously want, and there’s a disconnect because your subconscious mind doesn’t believe it’s getting there.  And it produces an emotion to let you know that.

It really is just feedback about the relationship between where you are and where you want to be.
