Money and Spirituality

From time to time we have clients who are conflicted about money and their spiritual or religious beliefs. This blog post by Brian Hill has an interesting perspective so I’m passing it along to you.

Money is different things to different people. Depending on who you are, money can be symbolic for power, freedom, security, education, etc. If someone is on a spiritual path, it behooves that person to see money as spiritual.

First, a psychological leaning acronym pertaining to money might prove insightful.

M. O. N. E. Y. = My. Own. Natural. Energy. Yield. My own natural energy is what we think, feel, speak and do. Pertaining to money, your human radiation always brings back to you its financial equivalent. Succinctly, people on a spiritual path generally have an avoidance relationship with money. They do not think, feel, speak, and do much about money, until money becomes scarce. Then they worry and panic, thus giving it urgent attention. Sort of like finally, watering the plant when it’s just about to die.

Second, but more importantly is the spiritual/material side of money. Pick your term for the Infinite Intelligence. For now, let’s call it Spirit. Here is a spiritually, panentheistic perspective on money.

Metaphysically, the Spirit is in all of life. Scientifically (physically) everything is energy. Spirit is energy. As spiritual beings having a human experience, all that we think, feel, speak and do is done with the energy of Spirit. Call money, the green energy of Spirit. The more green energy of Spirit we have, the more we can express Spirit within us. Look at a $100 bill as one hundred units of Spirit’s energy. We call money, currency. When we pay for a service or a material good, we are exchanging Spirit for Spirit. We are keeping the current, the flow of Spirit’s energy circulating.

Abundance is one of the infinite qualities of Spirit, so it makes sense to have an abundance of the green energy units of Spirit. That way we can express Spirit within us abundantly. Try looking at every leaf on a tree, as symbolic as Spirit’s abundance. Then contemplate that leaf as one hundred units of Spirit’s green energy. Perspective is everything. Embrace your financial abundance.
