Leadership: Performance vs Presence

Are you performing that role or are you being being present in your role? There’s a huge difference between these two things, because a lot of people show up and perform their duties, know, their day-to-day stuff, managing people, taking care of business.

But a real leader exhibits presence. And what I mean by presence is that ability to actually listen to the people in front of you, to be in the moment, rather than thinking about the millions of other things that you have to do.

And you do that by showing empathy and kindness and curiosity. Because when you do these things, these are all the things that spark creativity.  And as a leader, when you can spark creativity within your organization, many, many more things become possible.
