Retention and Emotional Intelligence

I’m Roberta Fernandez, your Ability Activator. Today I want to talk about emotional intelligence. Now a lot of people hear that word emotional intelligence and they don’t really understand what it means. I’ll explain that in another video, but for today I want to tell you why it’s important.

Last July, Indeed, the job search platform did a survey and they came up with the 16 top reasons why people leave their employment.  And it’s interesting to note that of the 16, only three of them had to do with anything that didn’t involve emotional intelligence.

Those three things were moving to another state, wanting a higher salary, which by the way, was curiously number two, not number one.  And the third one had to do with the financial stability of a company they were in.

And so emotional intelligence does play a role in many aspects of a work environment.  And over the course of the next few weeks, I’m going to be highlighting why it’s important that people pay attention to being emotionally intelligent.  And this doesn’t have to be just in the workplace. It also applies to your personal relationships as well. So stay tuned and let’s learn a little bit together.
