Reflection

Today’s Monday Mention is about reflection.

When asked who had an influence in his life, Fred Rogers of MR. Rogers fame replied:

“A lot of people who have allowed me to have some silence. And I don’t think we give that gift very much anymore. I’m very concerned that our society is much more interested in information than wonder. In noise rather than silence. How do we encourage reflection? This is a noisy world.”

Life is hectic, non-stop, and sometimes chaotic. A day can pass, and you feel as if you’ve not had a moment to breathe. Information is 24/7 and coming at you from many directions.

As we finish the first week of a brand new year, I would encourage you to take a few minutes every day to reflect on something you learned, of something of value. A few moments to appreciate the gifts in your life. A few moments to appreciate the awesome beauty in the natural world around you – cloud formations, a flower squeezing up through a crack in the sidewalk, the sparkle in freshly fallen snow when the sun shines on it, the blue of the ocean, the warmth of the sun. Everywhere you look, there is something to appreciate, you only have to choose to see it.
