So what is a trance state? It’s not like the movies! Science measures electrical activity or brainwaves – how fast your neurons are firing – at 4 different levels.
The most active state is beta, measured at 15-40 hertz (hz) or cycles per second. This is when you are awake and your mind is strongly engaged (hopefully like you are now, listening to me!).
The second is alpha, at 9-14 hz. It is the lightest level of trance, a day dreaming state where your mind wanders and tunes out things in the background. This can happen frequently when listening to a boring presenter, watching tv or a movie, or even while driving.
The third state is theta, at 5-8 hz. This is a much deeper trance state, where your subconscious mind is active and your conscious mind is much less so. This is where I work with clients as they are most receptive to the ideas they’d like to adopt and will have the greatest impact.
And last, is delta, at 1.5-4 hz. This is the sleep state, and the only state where your conscious mind is out of the picture. But don’t worry, your subconscious mind is always aware!
You experience alpha or theta many times during the day, but at least twice, while going to sleep or waking up. This is the perfect time for you to practice adding self hypnosis to your daily practice by having positive thoughts and giving yourself positive suggestions for a deep, restful sleep or for a wonderfully successful day!
