It’s estimated that sleep issues affect 40 million people. Lack of sleep can contribute to a myriad of medical conditions. Practicing good sleep habits in these areas can help you get a better night’s rest:
* Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, nicotine and alcohol for at least six hours before sleep.
* Make a list of home and work to-do’s so your mind doesn’t have to worry about them.
- *Don’t stay in bed for more than 15 minutes if you can’t fall asleep. Get up and perform a non-stimulating activity like reading.
- *Darken your bedroom.
- *Remove distractions. Turn away the clock, turn off phone chimes.
As you become more relaxed before going to sleep, fewer neurons fire in your brain, creating an increase in Alpha and Theta brain waves. Using self-hypnosis before going to sleep stimulates Alpha and Theta brain waves, allowing you to be more receptive to positive suggestions that you give yourself. Learning how to purposely use this natural state of mind can help you experience a better quality night’s sleep, improving your health and sense of well-being.
