Mindfulness, Meditation, and Hypnosis. There’s much confusion between these 3 modalities and rightly so. They are similar and yet different in many aspects.
Mindfulness is typically described as being aware of the present in the moment, accepting what is happening or what you are thinking without judgment. It may or may not involve a trance state. (I talked about trance states 248 blogs ago, so I think that should be our topic next week.) Mindfulness is definitely the doorway to meditation and hypnosis.
Meditation is a really loaded word. There are so many definitions, methods and goals for meditation today. Most would agree, however, that the goal is to quiet or clear the mind. Trance is always a part of meditation if you get yourself into that state.
Hypnosis is another loaded word. First there are SO much misunderstanding of it from movies and television. Some will say that it is purely suggestion and requires no trance state. With some people that may be true, at least according to NLP practitioners. Most however agree that hypnosis involves a trance state and is accompanied by suggestion (either from yourself or a hypnotist) or a variety of other hypnotic techniques. Some even define it as meditation with a focused intention (as opposed to clearing the mind).
Certainly all three share components of each other. What I know for sure is that all three are excellent stress relievers and the doorway to a healthier and happier life.
As the holidays rapidly approach, give yourself the gift of learning these techniques for yourself. We can show you how!
