Loneliness has been on the radar as a growing mental health issues for the past few years. During these days of social distancing, it is more pronounced for some. It’s more important than ever to reach out to those who are alone.
Reaching out to those who are alone in a way where you are physically visible, like FaceTime, Skype or Zoom, is a big deal for those spending their days with no one to connect to. I recently had an elderly neighbor’s children bring by the family’s new puppy and talk to their parents- balcony to parking lot. You could hear what a big difference that connection, even long distance, made to them.
A few minutes can seems like hours and help the time pass for those who feel isolated. So this week, reach out to the elderly neighbor, the single mom – you’ll benefit as much as they will.
