People often ask if hypnosis is appropriate for young children. We work with children 6 and above, and they are typically excellent candidates for suggestion work.
Parents are giving suggestions all the time – verbally and non-verbally – and unfortunately they can be counterproductive. Let me explain.
The logical, analytical mind doesn’t start forming until around 7 to 8 years old and continues into the 20’s. There is also not a lot of context or life experience in a very young child. Children function in their very literal subconscious mind. This means that it’s easy to misunderstand things that they are told, which can later cause issues. In fact, most problems in adults can be traced back to these early misperceptions.
Parents with even the best of intentions in what they say or do, depending on the sensitivity or vulnerability in the moment for the child, can have detrimental effects. We know that adults misinterpret the intentions or words of others, so imagine what that can be like for a child.
Because hypnosis works in the subconscious mind, it’s very easy to work with children and clear things up pretty easily.
