The Breath

Every client that we see learns a special breathing technique. You’ve probably heard about the importance of the breath and there’s a myriad of ideas out there on how to do it. The idea is to stimulate the vagus nerve where it sits under the diaphragm. The stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to release calming chemicals, helping you feel relaxed and clear.

Most techniques concentrate on the breathing itself, but neglect another important tool to be use in conjunction with the breath. That’s the opportunity to shift your focus. Studies show that a shift in focus for 1 minute helps us move from what was stressing us out to something that can calm us.

I call this the 5,4,3,2,1 technique – catchy, huh? – and can be downloaded for free from the resource tab on our website. Taking 5 breaths in this way, 5 times a day for 5 weeks will help you create a new neural network that tells your mind and body give you what you want – calm and clarity.
