Myth buster #9 – I might get stuck in trance
This is pure fiction, created to make a story interesting. It is possible for a client to get so relaxed they fall asleep and appear unresponsive. After a while, if there is no connection to the voice of the hypnotist, a client will emerge on their own or awaken later if they have fallen asleep.
However, a few months ago a client from Minnetonka came in for a relaxation session. She was so completely relaxed that she didn’t want to come out of trance. I suggested 3 times that she would emerge feeling refreshed and energized and still, no eyes opened. I grinned, and told her that while I suspected she was feeling very good very relaxed at the moment, I might have to charge her for another session if she took any longer. It took all of another 2 seconds and she emerged laughing at my final suggestion. She said she heard me all along, but was enjoying the special sanctuary she had created for herself and simply didn’t feel like leaving. I guess I finally landed on the right motivation for her!
Not wanting to emerge from hypnosis is understandable. When you have a hypnotic relaxation session, it’s like a massage for the mind.
