I remember one day about 7 years ago walking along the creek at Minnehaha Falls with my daughter. We were watching some 7-8 years old playing totally uninhibited in the river. My daughter asked, when did I forget how to do that? She was only 22.
I’ve often wondered when that transition happens. I’m sure it’s over time but the point is that most of us seem to loose the ability to play. I don’t mean sports, I mean really being childlike again.
As I work, looking at the rain outside, I challenge you to take a day off and….
Dance in the rain. Play kickball outside. Play with toys. Draw. Sing. Dance. Run for no reason. Skip and jump. Make up a game. Play miniature golf.
When you are done, ask yourself: Did it feel awkward? Was it liberating? How did you feel at the end of the day? Mark a day on your calendar to do it again – and be even more creative.
