Yes, it’s me. After many years of coloring my hair red, I decided to transition to my stubborn gray by way of my original color.
What is the difference between gray and platinum blonde? My stylist tells me about this much.(pictures) I was born with jet black hair and somewhere after about 6 months, I became what was then referred to as a towhead. I don’t remember that transition but it lasted much of my adult life, with me constantly trying to darken it. But the Florida sun always had its way in making me lighter.
As I was thinking about how to help you get over the visual shock, I recognized that my hair was a metaphor for the evolution and the eventual circle of life. I’ve been blonde for about a month now and I’m amazed at how easy it is to look in the mirror and recall the joy of being young. How our life flows from one transition to another, never staying the same, yet holding on to our roots. How as I get older things don’t weigh on me as much, just as my lighter, shorter hair feels the same.
