Once again I am compelled to talk about the opioid issue. I am grateful to a reporter from the MInneapolis Star Tribune for writing an article about how hypnosis can be a safe alternative for pain management. (http://www.startribune.com/hypnotism-a-safer-kind-of-painkiller/425775823/)
A couple of items were also brought to my attention. AARP has this issues focusing on opioids in an 8 page article on how it’s affecting the senior population.
The Week Magazine has some staggering statistics: Death from overdoses of opioids, heroin, and synthetic painkillers have sort about 50% in one year. Overdoses killed about 60,000 Americans in 2016.
To put this in perspective:
- Drugs are killing nearly twice as many Americans as gun violence.
- We are losing people to the overdoses at a rate equivalent to twenty 9/11 massacres each year.
- The state of Ohio has joined more than a dozen other states and cities they’re suing five pharmaceutical companies, charging the drug makers deliberately use the deceptive marketing campaign to turn powerful opioids into a mass consumer product. Purdue Pharma told doctors “the risk of addiction to OxyContin was less than 1%”.
- 2 million people are addicted to prescription opioids, and at least 1 million more are shooting up cheaper, easier-to-buy heroin and fentanyl.
Opioids are a huge problem and law enforcement agencies, city and state governments, and doctors are asking for help with this problem. Talk to your doctor about hypnosis. See if it’s right for you and if they if don’t know, send them to my website or have them call. I’m happy to talk to any doctor anywhere about the benefits of hypnosis and who it can and can’t help. Let’s have these honest discussions and think out of the box for creative solutions.
